When buying a home whether it is a new or older home it is always important to get a home inspection done.

For the amount of information you get in return and the peace of mind associated with knowing the home’s faults the cost of getting a good home inspection is well worth it. A typical home inspection can range from $200 to $600 depending on the size of the home.

Finding the right home inspector is very important and there are certain criteria you should follow when hiring. For starters you need to find a home inspector that is experienced with inspecting residential properties. You will also want to look for someone that has a membership in a professional home inspector association. As we are all aware things change over time. Finding a home inspector that participates in continued education is important to keep their expertise up to date.

Should You Attend the Home Inspection?

A good home inspector will talk you through things as they go if they see a problem. If a home inspector says you cannot attend then find a different one, not allowing you attend is a major red flag. As you attend the home inspection it will educate you as well as put into perspective problems that are discovered, more so than reading a report.

Experience should also be taken into account but you also want to remember that if you always based you decisions by how long someone has been in business then you could miss out on a very qualified professional that may have resources that can assist them in their inspection and potentially save you a few bucks.
