Idaho and HIV
The Idaho Statesman came out with a new story today with concerns that HIV is on the rise in Idaho. Of course it lists the same types of behaviours that we all know to contribute to contracting the virus. But there is a twist… The Internet is now responsible for some of the “hookups”.
Southeastern Idaho’s health department recently announced an alarming increase in cases, emphasizing a link to the Internet. Internet hookups are suspected in at least some cases in the Treasure Valley area.
I understand, I think, what the writer is trying to say but the fact of the matter is… from what I know about the Internet it is impossible to transmit bodily fluids over it. Whether they met over the Internet, on the phone, at a bar, a party, etc the only way to get HIV is to swap infected bodily fluids so why bring the Internet into it? The point should be don’t have sex with people you don’t know or know where they have been especially men with other men and don’t share needles.
