Idaho Fact #2
Some believe that the state’s name is an Indian word for “gem of the mountains”. However that probably isn’t the case. The word was probably coined by western prospectors in the 1850’s. Colorado, which had a gold rush shortly before the Idaho, nearly got the name “Idaho”.
