5 Ways to Stretch Your Finances
I figure by the time we all make it through this financial crunch time we should all be somewhat better off. Trimming that fat and not wasting as much of our resources can improve the quality of life. I know that there are many people that we already on the edge out there and now are having difficulty making it day-to-day and my prayers go out to you.
I know in the past I have wasted gas, food, and other valuable resources that I take for granted at times. Well with gas over $4 a gallon I am discovering that if I plan things right I can drive less and in turn save on fuel costs. If you are looking for ways to stretch the dollar, keep reading…
- I did this last year but one great way to get a substantial increase in monthly income is to adjust your withholdings. I was getting a return each year for about $2,000, now that is down to about $500. This put nearly $150 a month into my pocket each month. I was no longer lending money to the government, interest free.
- Plan your meals on a calendar and make a list of grocery items. Go to the store once a week and refrain from buying things not on the list. You will be surprised how healthy you can eat while saving money at the same time.
- Use coupons for anything you can. There are coupons available for more than food items. Look in your newspaper, phone book, etc for coupons to your favorite services.
- Consider how much time you spend watching tv… For me it is not very much so I don’t have cable or dish tv. Personally I don’t need it and can’t justify the cost for only a few hours of tv a month. Cut back on luxury items, at least for now, if you can.
- Carpooling and public transportation is a great way to save money. Partner up!
